Effects of Isokinetic Exercise Programs on the Improvement of Muscular Power
Oh Sang-Duk

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to perform 8-weeks isokinetic exercise program for power-up of 180 deg/sec as well as 300 deg/sec and to suggest more effective isokinetic exercise programs for power improvement. The subjects(n=20) were divided into two groups consisted of ten student each depending upon speed. Paired samples t-test was conducted to investigate not only effects before and after exercise of each group but also difference between both groups. To attain the purpose of the study, not only isokinetic power test but also field test was conducted before and after exercise. The findings were as follows: Before and after isokinetic exercise group of 180deg/sec and 300deg/sec exercised, power was measured; Both extensor power and flexor power increased significantly(p<.05; p<.01). The extensor power had significant difference between 180 deg/sec of isokinetic exercise group and isokinetic exercise group of 300 deg/sec(p<.05); On the other hand, the flexor power had no significant difference between both groups. Before and after exercise, a field test of isokinetic exercise group of 180 deg/sec was conducted; SLJ(Standing Long Jump), STJ(Standing Triple Jump) and VJ(Vertical Jump) had no significant difference, while 25m SLH(25m Single Leg Hop) decreased significantly(p<.01). On the other hand, 300 deg/sec group increased or decreased significantly, for instance, SLJ(p<.01), STJ(p<.01), VJ(p<.05) and 25m SLH(p<.001). SLJ, STJ and 25m SLH had significant difference between isokinetic exercise group of 180 deg/sec and 300 deg/sec(p<.05). And, VJ had no significant difference between groups. Therefore, when isokinetic exercise was done to improve power, isokinetic exercise of 300 deg/sec that was high speed load exercise to have relations with speed factor was more effective than isokinetic exercise of 180 deg/sec was.
